Shipping companies use heavy fuel oil derived from the distillation of crude oil. Crude oil contains sulfur, which produces emissions after combustion that are harmful to human health, causing respiratory problems and lung diseases. Also, they are harmful to the atmosphere, where it can cause acid rain and damage the flora, the fauna and contribute to the acidification of the oceans.

That’s why the maritime logistics industry has taken measures to reduce these harmful emissions and contribute to the preservation of the planet through IMO 2020.

IMO 2020 is the new regulation that requires ships to reduce their sulfur oxide emissions by using fuel oil with a sulfur content of a maximum of 0.5% m/m.
